Hi, I’m Charles Halton. My book, A Human-Shaped God: Theology of an Embodied God won the 2024 Grawemeyer Award in Religion. I’m a theologian, biblical scholar, and Episcopal priest.
I am Associate Rector of Christ Church Cathedral in Lexington, Kentucky and am an external affiliate of the Centre for the Study of Judaism and Christianity in Antiquity at St. Mary’s University, Twickenham. I taught Old Testament and Semitic languages for almost ten years at the seminary and college levels and I earned a PhD in Bible and ancient Near East with an emphasis in cuneiform languages from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati, Ohio.
If you’d like me to speak at your university, academic conference, religious group, book club, or just want to say hello, drop me a message at charleshalton [at] mac [dot] com.
